Vodafone Kenya Ltd has announced plans to acquire additional 15 percent stake in giant  telecommunications company Safaricom. In a notice, the firm however says it will not initiate a takeover of Safaricom, despite holding 55 percent shareholding of the telco. The additional shares will be acquired from the government of Kenya. “The GOK and the general public investors will retain approximately 20 percent and 25 percent of Safaricom’s shareholding, respectively. Criminal gangs in Kenya are taking the center stage across counties, a report by the Interior Ministry reveals. Compiled under the Jukwaa La Usalama framework, the government says most of the gangs are relatively new and armophous but used mostly during elections. ’’These gangs pose a challenge to law and order and impede economic activities,” reads the report that was presented to President William Ruto on Tuesday. Listed telco giant Safaricom launched a Sh40 billion Medium-Term Note (MTN) Programme, on the 25th November with an invitation to the public to invest. Expected to close on Friday 5th, December 2025, Safaricom says the funds will be used in one of its most significant infrastructure upgrades in years. The move comes as the telco giant grapples with a soaring energy bill, now averaging Ksh5B monthly, to power its nationwide network of 7,000 base stations, commonly referred to as boosters. The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) has ranked Kenya a top competitive economy in the continent. The ranking, the institute says is a reflection of structural changes, modernizations and police executions initiated by Nairobi. “These actions have produced tangible outcomes that IMD recognizes as central to competitiveness,” the institute notes. Global travel is to be disrupted following an announcement by Airbus on major software change on a significant number of Airbus A320 jets. Airbus said in a statement a recent incident involving an A320-family aircraft had revealed that intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls. Kenya’s national carrier Kenya Airways has issued a profit warning for its financial period ending December 31st, 2025. The carrier in a statement noted that its earnings will be lower by at least 25 percent, than the earnings reported for the same period last year.
