President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and its partner in the broad-based government Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party swept the Thursday by elections.
In the hotly contested Mbeere North and Malava constituencies, the president’s party emerged top securing slim wins against rivals under the United Opposition banner.
UDA’a Leonard Wamuthende secured the Mbeere North seat securing 15,8o2 votes against his closest challenger Newton Kariuki of Democratic Party who garnered 15,308 votes.
In Malava, UDA’s David Indakwa beat DAP-K’s Seth Panyako by 21,564 votes to 20,210 to secure the seat.
ODM on the other hand sailed smoothly in Kasipul, Ugunja and Magarini constituencies to retain the seats. Boyd Were beat his main challenger Philip Aroko by garnering 16,819 votes against 8,476 .
In Ugunja, Moses Omondi secured the bag with 9,447 votes while in Magarini Harrison Kombe polled 17,909 votes to beat Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) Stanley Kenga who managed 8,907 votes.
”Your victory is a powerful reminder to us that we are bigger and better as a country when we are united,” said the president in a message congratulating his team winners.
The Thursday polls were marked by incidents of violence, vote disruption especially in the hotly contested Mbeere North, Malava and Kasipul constituencies.
The electoral commission IEBC in a statement, late Thursday evening called on the National Police Service to investigate and bring to book the perpetrators.
