Ecobank has appointed former Family Bank CEO, Mrs Rebecca M. Mbithi, to head the Kenya unit. The Monetary Policy Committee of the CBK has lowered the benchmark rate CBR by a further 25 basis points. The committee says the decision will buffer previous actions aimed at stimulating lending by banks. This now lowers the rate to 9 percent ahead of the full implementation of the Risk-Based Credit Pricing Model (RBCPM).
President William Ruto has launched Safaricom’s Ziidi Trader at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The platform allows Kenyans to buy and sell NSE shares directly via M-Pesa. Via a post on his social media pages, Ruto said, “These resources, channelled through the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, will crowd in private investment, finance national priorities, and protect inter-generational equity.”

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer, Marjan Hussein Marjan, has resigned after nearly three years in office. The electoral agency’s Chair Erastus Ethekon says the decision was reached after a mutual agreement to terminate his services. “As the current CEO/CS exits, we embark on critical reforms within the Secretariat,” Ethekon says. The commission says it will announce an interim replacement as the official recruitment process takes place. Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO) is facing a Sh108.8 million auction by RUPSA SACCO, formerly PCEA RUIRU SACCO. This is after the Sacco obtained orders allowing the auction to recover millions of deposits after KUSCCO disregarded several court orders. “We have, regrettably, had to take this unprecedented action following KUSCCO’s blatant disregard of a Cooperative Tribunal judgement ordering it to refund the RUPSA SACCO its deposits and interest, but it has also demonstrated open contempt to our organisation by settling debts to other institutions”, RUPSA Treasurer Edward Gacheru said. Subdued property price rises, and ongoing rent rises in Q4 2025 pushed Nairobi city rental yields to a new record of 7.4 per cent, according to HassConsult, which today unveiled the quarter’s property index results. Property prices climbed by 0.3 per cent in Q4 and 7.7 per cent for the year, while rents fell by 0.9 per cent in Q4 and 2.5 per cent for the year, as rents softened along the coast and in the country’s other major cities. Kenya has launched the Kenya Cyber Resilience (KCR) Project, aimed at safeguarding the country’s digital future. The initiative has been funded by the European Union to the tune of Sh 454million will run for three years. The project, implemented by Expertise France in partnership with the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV), will focus on strengthening legal, regulatory, and institutional frameworks, building operational capacity for cyber incident prevention and response, and promoting public awareness and trust, with special attention to women, youth, and users of public digital services.
