JKIA main gate: Pilots warn of fatigue due to ongoing industrial action by ATC

Kenya Airlines Pilots Association (KALPA) has put airlines on notice over effects of the ongoing strike. The association says the disruptions are affecting crew schedule and rest thereby increasing risks of fatigue.

”In this context, strict adherence to established Flight Duty Period (FDP) limitations and mandatory rest requirements is essential” Captain Murithi Nyagah, General Secretary of the Association said in a press statement.

On Monday, Air Traffic Controllers in Nairobi downed their tools demanding a full implementation of a collective bargaining agreement it signed with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).  The workers through their union Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) issued a 7-day strike notice last week.

The industrial actions has in last 30 hours left hundreds of travelers stranded as flights in and out of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport face delays.

“While we acknowledge the challenges currently facing the sector, we reiterate that labor matters are best resolved through constructive, good faith dialogue,” the pilots note.
