The Independent Elections and Bounderies Commission (IEBC) says it will utilize an estimated Ksh1 billion towards media campaigns in the 2027 General Elections

Appearing before a parliamentary committee, the commissioner said this would be sufficient in equipping it to deal with misinformation, disinformation and fake news.

”The combination of misinformation, disinformation and distortion is a threat and we must be ready to tackle them as part of our engagements,” noted Comissioner Alutalala Mukhwana.

The commission further notes that its current communications team is ill equipped to deal with the challenges and sophistication of the media space. Hence the budget request would help it deal with the shortage.

”We only have three people manning our communications department. We must boost this and equip them better,” noted the commissioner in defense of the budget.
