AGRA’S Kalibata Joins COP28 President Advisory Team

MSN ReporterBy MSN ReporterMarch 21, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

AGRA’s President Dr Agnes Kalibata has joined the Advisory Committee of the President of the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28). The committee is a body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates later this year.

In a statement, AGRA says Dr Kalibata will contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change. It adds that she will be involved in strategic initiatives, including working groups, task forces, and consultations, to ensure that the voices and needs of farmers and businesses are heard and incorporated into global climate policies.

”There is nothing today that is more important than all of us pooling together to contribute to the global effort to combat climate change,” said Dr. Kalibata on her delight to be a member of the COP28 President’s Advisory Committee.

COP28 is scheduled to take place in November 2023 and will bring together countries and stakeholders to discuss climate change policies and strategies.

“This is an opportunity to advancing Food Systems efforts even further globally and here in Africa and I remain desirous of and committed to sustaining the momentum” she said

Early this month, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the President-Designate of COP28, outlined his vision for the conference in a speech at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin. In his remarks, he said there was an urgent need to reduce emissions to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, further calling for a tripling of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and doubling it again by 2040

Dr Al Jaber is the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), one of the world’s largest oil companies.
