Talanta Stadium will be renamed to Raila Amolo Odinga International Stadium once complete, President William Ruto said.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has lauded President William Ruto’s move to rename Talanta Stadium after the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
ODM Chair Gladys Wanga says the president’s move demonstrates the spirit of patriotism and national cohesion.
“Renaming the stadium after Rt. Hon. Odinga is a symbolic action in recognising the monumental contribution he made to expanding democratic space, safeguarding constitutionalism, and championing the rights and dignity of all Kenyans,” Wanga says.
Calls to rename the stadium, which is still under construction, began during Raila Odinga’s funeral in October.
The same call wa reiterated by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja at Nyayo National Stadium, during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
