    KENYA: Pockets of violence mar mini polls

    Homa Bay Town MP Opondo Kaluma speaks to journalists after being attacked by a rival team in Kasipul by elections

    Incidents of violence, torching and alleged vote bribery are being reported in the ongoing by elections in Kenya.

    In Mbeere North Constituency, Democratic Party Leader and former Attorney General Justin Muturi was caught on camera in a near fist fight with an opponent on allegation of voter bribery.

    In Kasipul Constituency, Homa Bay Town MP George Opondo Kaluma, was roughed and injured by a rival team at a polling station. Police reports indicate that at least 17 people have been arrested in the constituency on allegation of being part of gang out to create chaos.

    In Malava, Kakamega County, a vehicle belonging to the convoy of DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako was torched by goons. Speaking to the media earlier, Panyako had also alleged that part of his campaign team had been attacked overnight.

    In Magarini, Kilifi North MP Ken Chonga was chased away from a polling station.

    Kenya’s electoral commission IEBC is yet to release a statement on the violence and or the status of the vote across the seven constituencies. The polls are set to close at 5pm local time
