    KENYA: By-Elections kick off

MSN ReporterBy MSN ReporterNovember 27, 2025No Comments1 Min Read

Seven parliamentary mini elections have kicked off this morning in Kenya, setting the stage of some constituencies to have representatives after two years.

The polls manned by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will see voters in Banisa constituency elect an MP after 2 years and seven months. The seat fell vacant following the death of Kullow Maalim Hassan in March, 2023.

The other seats in Malava and Baringo also fell vacant following the deaths of legislators Injendi Malulu (Malava) and William Cheptumo following prolonged illness according to media reports.

In Kasipul Constituency, their representative Charles Ong’ondo Were was murdered in Nairobi in a drive by shooting in April 2025. In Ugunja and Mbeere North, the vacancies arose on the appointment of their representatives to serve in the executive arm of government as cabinet secretaries. In Magarini, the incumbent’s election was annulled by court.

The polls are set to close at 5pm local time, with results expected to stream into the night.
