Lazizi Mara Ltd, franchise holders of the Ritz Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp says it followed all procedures for approval in setting up the establishment.
The firm in a statement to newsrooms on Wednesday said it had mounted a comprehensive defence in the petition filed against it in a Kenyan court.
It also noted that global hotel brands Ritz Carlton do not own or operate the facility.
“The developer and operator of the project is Lazizi Mara Limited” said Shivan Patel, managing director.
The 20 tented suites luxury safari camp has been in the spotlight for what petitioners in the case say is blocking the wildlife corridor. The camp costs about $3,500 a night and promises guests a front row seat to experience the wildebeest migration.
“We confirm that the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott conducted their own independent, in-depth due diligence before granting Lazizi Mara Limited the brand license,” added Patel.
Lazizi Mara Ltd is also accusing the petitioner in the suit, Meitamei Ole Dapash of not serving all respondents in the suit.
“This deliberate delay continues to drag the court process,” says Patel in the statement.
Opened in August 2025, the camp is the Ritz-Carlton first sub-Saharan foray in safari tourism.
The county government of Narok and the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) have defended the developer as having complied with requisite permits.
